In early October we got a message from our adoption agency on our voicemail. Daniel thought it was to invite us to speak to waiting parents. Julie thought it was because they wanted us to adopt another child. (By this point, you probably know who was right!) The story was that our facilitator, Anne, who helped us adopt Merav was reviewing children who were being placed for adoption in Guatemala City and noticed that a baby's last name was the same as Merav's original last name. And so, we were asked whether we wanted to adopt our daughter's biological sister! Talk about a no-brainer!!!
We have spent the last several months scrambling to assemble the necessary paperwork and waiting to reach the point when we could go meet Shira -- and at last the moment has arrived! The four of us are going to spend five days getting to know our new daughter and sister. We won't be able to bring her home on this trip, but we are hopeful that we will soon (more on the process later). For now, we are just focused on enjoying our first meeting and some special time together. We've started this blog to keep everyone updated on the process to adopt Shira. We look forward to reading your posts, and we encourage people to write notes to Liat and Merav as well so we can include them in the back and forth nature of a blog.

Dear Liat and Merav
I can't wait to hear about your trip--and your new baby sister!
I was wondering, would you write to me and tell me what is the first thing you said to her?
Adele
Oh Julie, thank you for sharing this wonderful story in photos and words. Your joy sings through.
May the process go smoothly and quickly and may you all find yourselves together sooner than later. Love to you,
Barbara D.
